Five killed in Thai police shootout

Police in southern Thailand say they have killed five suspected insurgents in a shootout.
The clash is said to have occurred after police surrounded an insurgent hideout in a village in the predominantly Muslim province of Yala.
Thousands of people have been killed in separatist-related violence in the Thai border region since the conflict flared eight years ago.
