A boat carrying 81 passengers and three crew has been found near the Ashmore Islands, half way between Australia and Indonesia.

Australia's Home Affairs Minister, Jason Clare, says the asylum seekers on board will be transferred to the offshore processing centre on Christmas Island off Australia's north west coast.

A boat carrying 43 asylum seekers was intercepted off Australia's Northern Territory coast on Monday.
